On Friday, we took advantage of the good weather (finally!) to take part in a classic summer activity: strawberry picking.
We visited Västernäs Handelsträdgård, a small garden centre in Höör. We parked in the main car park outside the centre and walked the 300 metres to the strawberry field, although you can also drive down and park there. If your child is a fan of trains, they’ll enjoy watching out for the trains which regularly pass along the train tracks which run parallel to the road just here.
Once we arrived at the field, we picked up a punnet from the truck and were shown where to pick by a member of staff. There were tons of huge, beautiful red berries and we quickly filled our container – and couldn’t resist tucking in on our walk back to the car. They were so tasty we ate almost half our punnet on the walk back and I slightly regretted not getting two.

After we’d dropped our remaining strawberries off at the car, we popped into the garden centre to get a cold drink at the Sweets on the Streets café, stopping off to say hello to the resident pigs on the way. The café is fairly large, with plenty of seating, and sells waffles, milkshakes and hot sandwiches alongside hot and cold drinks. There’s also a small play area called Bär Landet where younger visitors can run around.

Then there was just time for a look around the plants and to pick up a few perennials for my border before we hauled our booty home.
By late Saturday, our few remaining berries were, understandably, overripe – so our tips: wear a hat and sunscreen, buy at least two punnets, and devour them as soon as you get home.

Västernäs Handelsträdgård is at Ekenäsvägen 34, 24332 Höör. Check out their website here, and find updates on Facebook and Instagram. You can also take your own container for picking. Parking on site. There are handwashing facilities and a portaloo in the picking field, and a café and more portaloos in the main garden centre.
